Note — I also offer coaching, workspace audits and create automations. But since I regularly help individuals and companies to set up complete systems, I thought I’d share more about how I approach those projects here.
You don’t need a database for everything but if you’re working with lists of items - tasks, projects, goals etc. - then you’ll probably want to use them.
Designing a system made from databases in Notion is like designing a house and as always, you need to begin this process with the end in mind. I’ll start by getting to know things like; how you intend to use the system, what information you want to store in it and which processes are part of your daily, weekly and monthly routines.
Next we can figure out which rooms you need, where to put the walls and the plumbing. This is the database architecture. Getting that wrong can be very limiting but fortunately you’ll be working with an expert architect who’s designed systems in Notion hundreds of times.
Then, we’ll work together to design a layout for your rooms - the pages in your workspace which contain database views - to make managing your processes simple. Crucially, once you’ve built the house with a robust design, you have the freedom to change the layout of the furniture as much as you like. So if your business evolves and your processes change, all you’ll need to do is rearrange the layout of your rooms.
In the end you'll have a house - essentially a piece of software - that’s been designed just for you.
